The four models, explained and interactive

Every AngelRace number traces back to one of these. Nothing here is a black box — move the sliders and watch the math respond.

1

Weighted Correlation Score

Horse 40% · Jockey 20% · Trainer 20% · Stable 20%

score = (horse × 0.40) + (jockey × 0.20) + (trainer × 0.20) + (stable × 0.20)

A linear-weighted composite of four inputs rated 0–10 — the same shape as a correlation-weighted regression, just with fixed rather than fitted weights. This is the base layer AngelScore builds on, generalized to eleven feature families elsewhere on the site.

Poisson Win Model

Rate-based probability from a competitive score

λ = score / scale P(win) ≈ λᵢ / Σλⱼ (Poisson-rate field share)

Each runner's competitive score becomes a Poisson rate parameter λ — the same family of model used for expected-goals-style sports forecasts. A runner's win share is its rate relative to the field's total rate.

3

Recency Decay Model

"Demora" — how fast an old start stops mattering

weight(i) = decay^i weighted_avg = Σ(value × weight) / Σweight

Start 0 (the most recent) always carries full weight. Each start further back is discounted by the decay factor raised to its distance — a lower decay forgets old form faster.

Monte Carlo Model

Thousands of simulated races instead of one formula

for i in 1..N: sample latent performance per runner (+ shared pace shock) record the winner P(win) ≈ wins / N

Where models 1–3 are closed-form, Monte Carlo is empirical: it draws randomized outcomes repeatedly and counts what happens. More trials narrow the estimate without changing what it's estimating.
